“Smederevo Autumn” is a traditional tourist and economic manifestation that takes place every year in Smederevo on the second weekend in September. This event celebrates grapes and wine from the Smederevo vineyard, and is known for the parade of medieval knights and the rich cultural and artistic program that takes place in the Smederevo fortress and on the streets of the city.
The first exhibition of grapes and wine in Smederevo was held in 1888 at the city pier and lasted for several days with music and merriment. Over the years, “Smederevo Autumn” has grown into the most significant event of the Danube District, with a fair character, which can be seen through the large number of exhibitors and visitors, which reaches an average of 100,000 people per day.

The event officially begins on the evening of September 5 with the performance of the “Moravska tambura” tambura orchestra. The ceremonial parade, called “SMEDEREVO VAZDA OTVORENO”, starts the next day at 6 p.m. and passes through the main city streets, ending in the city square.
A large bunch of grapes, a symbol of the event, is placed there, and the parade participants perform in the square. On the same day, at 3:00 p.m., the Agricultural Exhibition called “Country Yards” is held in the grounds of the Smederevo Fortress, while an economic exhibition is held in the Cultural Center. The official opening of the event is planned for 8:00 p.m. in the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress, followed by a concert by the “Virtuosi” Orchestra and Choir. For music lovers, popular singer Vlado Georgiev will perform at the City Square at 10 p.m.
The next day, the program continues in the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress with “The Despot’s Town – the Medieval Serbian Capital”. This part of the program, which shows the medieval spirit of Smederevo, includes:
- theater performances
- concerts
- igrokaze
- craft market
- telling poetry
- jousting tournaments.
In addition, the pavilion of the Smederevo Fortress is dedicated to the presentation of the works of the city’s women’s associations, while a sales exhibition is held in the town square, where women’s associations, producers of honey, flowers, wine, fruit and souvenirs participate. During the entire duration of the manifestation, programs for children, performances of folklore groups, as well as evening concerts were organized.
Saturday is reserved for concerts by Dženan Lončarević and the group Kerber. On Sunday, the audience will be entertained by Nemanja Nikolić and Zorica Brunclik. The event ends with fireworks at midnight, which symbolizes the end of another successful “Smederevo Autumn”. This event attracts the attention of a large number of visitors and serves as an important cultural and economic event for Smederevo and its surroundings.
