Snapdragon 8 Elite officially launched: 8 years of updates and 40% faster GPU

Qualcomm is on a roll: the company has just launched its newest and most powerful processor.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite was unveiled at a special event held in Hawaii.

The new chipset is an important leap in the evolution of mobile processors, bringing innovations that promise to transform the experience of premium smartphone users.

Raw power and energy efficiency

The architecture of this processor is based on the 3-nanometer manufacturing process, incorporating eight custom Qualcomm Oryon cores.

Two of these are main cores that can reach frequencies of 4.32 GHz, while the other six performance cores run at 3.53 GHz.

This configuration, along with a generous 24MB L2 cache, provides a 45% performance improvement over the previous generation.

In addition, energy consumption has been reduced by 27% compared to its predecessor.

Advanced artificial intelligence

The Hexagon Neural Unit enables AI processing directly on the device at 45% faster speed.

This capability translates into sophisticated multi-modal experiences that allow devices to simultaneously process voice, text, images and commands in real time.

On the photography and videography side, the 8 Elite supports sensors up to 320 megapixels.

The triple ISP Spectra AI system brings features such as unlimited semantic segmentation at 4K resolution, object removal from videos, and real-time skin and sky tone adjustments.

Professional level gaming

For phone gaming enthusiasts, the redesigned Adreno GPU offers a 40% performance boost and support for advanced technologies like ray-tracing.

It is the first mobile processor to support the Nanite virtualized geometry system and Unreal Engine 5.3, bringing console-level graphics to mobile devices.

Uncompromising connectivity

The new processor is equipped with the Snapdragon X80 5G modem, the first with aggregation for six carriers in the downlink and AI-based extension for mmWave.

Theoretical speeds can reach 10 Gbps for download and 3.5 Gbps for upload. The FastConnect 7900 system brings support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and Ultra Wideband connectivity, all integrated into a single 6nm chip.

Manufacturers such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Asus, OnePlus, Honor and OPPO are preparing to integrate this processor in their next flagship models. We are talking about the upcoming Galaxy S25, OnePlus 13, Xiaomi 15 and Realme GT7 Pro.

8 years of updates

The Snapdragon 8 Elite will get eight years of Android OS updates.

However, that doesn’t mean all Snapdragon 8 Elite phones will offer this.
