Snapdragon X Elite has iGPU disabled by default in Linux

Getting Linux and Snapdragon X compatible has become somewhat frustrating. Support has become problematic enough that the setting turns off the iGPU and thus the display.

The latest Linux patch notes suggest that developers had no choice but to disable the iGPU. The Adreno iGPU on the X1E80100 X Elite variant requires special OEM-specific keys that are not available by default.

However, this problem is said to only affect the processor variants mentioned above, other serial models should work normally. This is quite a frustrating obstacle that Linux developers have to deal with. The lack of an iGPU means that Linux systems running this particular CPU version and with this patch will have no display output at all – unless external GPUs are supported on the Snapdragon X Elite, which we don’t know at the moment.

This is one example that shows the slowness and complexity of bringing the latest Qualcomm processors to Linux. On top of all that, these new processors also struggle with webcam, USB4 and Bluetooth issues.
