SNOOZE DATING: What’s the new practice in dating apps that inadvertently sidelines your crush

Lately there has been a lot of talk about ghosts and their derivatives. It is a particularly toxic feature of this way of sheltering others without notifying them.

However, between gophering, cloaking or even benching (all of which we have already written about), which are nothing more than derivatives of voluntary ghosting, we can add snoozingas delaying dating. The latter has the specificity of being unintentional… And in our busy lives, we’ve all done it before, either in a friendship or a potential crush.

In English, “snooze” means to push away. This practice therefore consists of deferring a response to an inspiring boyfriend who will ultimately never receive a response. Result? Here’s another crush from the side!

Online dating pro happn has lifted the veil on this unintentional scourge and the numbers are alarming. 53% of the app’s users admitted that they caused a crush by simply forgetting. 76% said they felt regret for not responding to the profile they were interested in, and 50% felt disappointed in themselves. In terms of feelings, 21% feel guilty for hurting someone, while 29% feel uncomfortable.

According to happn figures, 44% of singles have already been unfortunate victims of this practice. As a result, 52% of them felt disappointed, and 17% felt abandoned. However, 30% of singles admitted that it was successful.

However, what is the impact on self-confidence? 40% of respondents believe that it can spoil the chances of a potential relationship. While 35% think that these are things that happen, and 26% said that it depends on how long the ghosts last.

When asked what prompts people looking for love to behave this way, happn explains that “’Delaying the date’ is more than a new practice; it is a symptom of the general overwork of singles. Between social media and dating apps, they can be inundated with requests, messages from family, friends, and… from their crush! ”
