Snow and frost are coming: the weather is getting significantly colder

National Meteorological Administration (ANM) announces a significant cooling of the weather in Romania starting on Saturday. In high mountain areas, precipitation in the form of snow is expected, and in other regions, temperatures will drop below normal for the period.

Bucharest

Saturday, from 12:00 to Sunday, 08:00:

• The weather will cool and the sky will be cloudy, with a chance of light rain, and possibly sleet in the second part of the day. The wind will blow moderately, reaching gusts of up to 40 km/h. The minimum temperature will be between 0 and 2 degrees Celsius.

Sunday, from 08:00 to Monday, 10:00:

• Cold weather will persist, skies will remain cloudy, and light rain is possible. The wind will be moderate, with gusts around 35 km/h. The maximum temperatures will be 7-8 degrees Celsius, and the minimum between 3 and 4 degrees.

This change marks the transition to a period of cold weather typical of the late autumn season, which will be felt across the country.

Moldova, Dobrogea and in most of Muntenia

In the same time interval, the wind will intensify in the southern half of Moldova, Dobrogea and in most of Muntenia, with speeds generally of 40…50 km/h.

The area of ​​precipitation will be increasing and will gradually cover the southeast, the south and locally the center of the country. It will rain in the low areas, and isolated there will be snow and sleet.

In the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, there will be mixed precipitation, and at altitudes above 1000 m, from Saturday evening, snowfall will prevail and a layer of snow will be deposited.

The weather will cool significantly

The amounts of precipitation will be 10…20 l/m2 and in isolated cases will exceed 25…30 l/m2. The weather will cool significantly, especially in the south, east and center and will become cold for this date.

Moreover, the wind will intensify in Dobrogea, southern Moldova, northeastern and eastern Muntenia. In Dobrogea, the south of Moldova, the northeast and the east of Muntenia, locally and temporarily the wind will have speeds of 50…65 km/h.

It will snow in the mountain areas in the counties of Prahova, Buzău, Vrancea, Braşov and Covasna. In the mentioned interval, in the mountain area of ​​Prahova, Buzău, Vrancea, Braşov and Covasna counties, especially at altitudes above 1000 m, snow will temporarily be intense and blizzard (wind speeds of 40…55 km/h) and will deposit a layer of snow, locally over 10…20 cm.
