Solar panels on highways: Sound insulation and energy production

Considering the possibility of installing sound barriers with solar photovoltaic panels on roads of the first category, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia announced a tender for the preparation of a study on this matter. The estimated value of the procurement is 12 million dinars.

The study should examine technical feasibility, economic aspects and environmental benefits application of solar photovoltaic panels as a means of sound insulation along highways, according to the portal eKapija.

According to the available data, the plan is to investigate the potential of installing solar panels that, in addition to serving as sound insulation, produced electricity from renewable sources. It is expected that this concept would contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, while simultaneously transforming currently unused areas into energy sources.

As part of the analysis, the experiences of other countries will be considered, as well as the possibility of applying innovative technologies, such as flexible solar panels that can be installed on already existing sound barriers.

The tender is open until October 28.
