You have probably already looked at the time at the right moment, when the numbers are identical or repeat: 11:11 a.m., 5:17 p.m., 8:20 p.m. If a feeling of amusement comes to you then, some people take this very seriously, seeing it as a sign, or even… the hidden message from an angel. Adepts call these number series “angel numbers.” And if we take a closer look, they are everywhere: on license plates, receipts, screens or in telephone numbers.
On TikTok, many people do not hesitate to share videos to analyze these special numbers, explain the hidden messages, or to learn how to calculate your personal angel number. Journalist Ellie Muir, from The Independent, attended the meeting of followers of angelic numbers, and tells us more about this mystical movement which even seduces Katy Perry and Jennifer Aniston.
Depending on the location and who you are talking to, each set of angel numbers has a different meaning. For example, the sequence “111” can represent luck, a new opportunity or the ability to achieve one’s goals; the “222” series is linked to balance, harmony and intuition; the sequence “333” symbolizes development or change. But the interpretation is broad and is based on what is happening in your life, like reading horoscopes.
“It can be reassuring to think that angels or energies are with us”
Some followers, like Inbaal Honigman, prefer to look for signs on receipts or invoices, rather than on screens – a question of authenticity. Her last phone bill, which had a series of “333s,” left her speechless: “I saw it as a sign of a little blessing, as if I had found a five-dollar bill on the ground after making a decision: it’s a little gift from the universe.”
Richard Abbot is a numerologist and spiritual guide. In addition to reading tarot cards (remotely, on Zoom) at more than 260 euros per session, his job is to find meaning in angelic numbers. He explains to the journalist from The Independent that angel numbers are like energies: “It’s not literally an angel in the sky with wings, but rather a protective energy.” For him, within the framework of numerology, repeating numbers are very significant: “This shows that you are accumulating a strong and intense amount of energy, which acts as a protective shield.”
For the numerologist, if angel numbers have become so popular, it is because we are surrounded by them through screens. Today the numbers are constantly before our eyes: “We take elevators that go up to numbered floors, we take flights that differ by number, we go to shows where the seats are coded, lists Richard Abbot. There are more numbers than there have ever been.”
However, from a scientific and mathematical point of view, angel numbers are a pile of nonsense. In an article in The Cut magazine, Doreen Virtue admitted that this concept, whose name she invented in 2004, is “a scumbag”. She, who has profited from it through books and television appearances, admits: “It can be reassuring to think that angels or energies are with us, protecting us and supporting us, but this is a false hope.”
