Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic will not participate in the year-end ATP Finals tournament in Turin.
This decision of the 37-year-old Serb means that the final event of the season will be for the first time since 2001 without any representative of the so-called of the big three – Djokovic, Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal.
“I was hoping to be able to participate, but due to an ongoing injury, I won’t be playing next week,” Djoković said on social media without elaborating on the problem. “I apologize to everyone who planned to see me live,” he added.
Djokovic, who won a record seven trophies at the ATP Finals event, will not defend last year’s title. Last year, he defeated the current world number one Italian Jannik Sinner in the final.
Federer has won the title six times and Nadal, who will retire after the Davis Cup final this month, has been in the final twice but never won the tournament.
Djokovic finished this season with a record of 37 wins and 9 losses, with his only tournament victory being the historic Olympic gold in Paris.
His balance was affected by a knee injury that required surgery and also caused his withdrawal from Roland Garros in Paris. Currently, Djokovic has won 99 tournament titles.
In addition to the aforementioned Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrej Rubľov will also perform in Turin.
