“Let there be no doubt that our decisions are guided by our values, in all our businesses. We do what is right. We always have and always will”, assured Sonae CEO, Cláudia Azevedo, in a letter sent to the group’s workers on March 9 last year.
Three months earlier, the largest national private employer had launched the “Sonae For All” program, which brings together corporate social responsibility initiatives, including volunteering, donations, patronage, social investment and emergency responses, such as Sonae For Ukraine.
When taking stock of these two years of “Sonae For All”, the group controlled by the Azevedo family guarantees that since December 2022 “more than 2,700 employees have participated in 260 volunteering actions, dedicating a total of 10 thousand hours to support local communities and benefit thousands of people across the country”.
“At Sonae, we believe in transforming the present into a better future. The involvement of our employees in volunteering initiatives reflects our culture of responsibility and commitment to responding to the needs of the communities where we are present”, emphasizes Daniel Fonseca, brand and communication from Sonae, in a statement.
“The enthusiasm of our people has been inspiring, and an example of putting into practice one of Sonae’s values ’we do what is right'”, concludes Daniel Fonseca.
The initiatives carried out by Sonae address areas such as education, the environment and support for vulnerable populations.
Among the actions promoted by Sonae are, for example, skills volunteering with Junior Achievement Portugal, supporting students in vulnerable situations; food distribution with CASA – Homeless Support Center; preparing family meals at Casa Ronald McDonald; support for solidarity restaurants and the Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome, as well as animal care in the São Brás Ecological Park.
Intending to reinforce the impact of the “Sonae For All” program in 2025, the group based in Maia indicates that it has “more than 100 actions already planned from the north to the south of the country”.
