Four years after the launch of the Sony PlayStation 5 game console, its improved version arrives PlayStation 5 Pro. Work was mainly done on a more powerful GPU, which has 67% more CUs, memory bandwidth increased by 28%. According to the manufacturer, this should result in 45% faster rendering of games. The new GPU has fundamentally improved performance with ray-tracing, where it should reach 2-3 times higher speeds than the current PS5. Another new feature is PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, i.e. increasing the amount of detail using artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
The new version is backward compatible with more than 8,500 games created for the PS4 console. The Enhanced Image Quality function aims to increase the resolution of selected PS4 games. The PS5 Pro also supports Wi-Fi 7 wireless, VRR and even 8K output. The increased performance will also be reflected in some games that will receive a patch allowing to use the support of new technologies. These will be labeled PS5 Pro Enhanced.
The console will be sold at a price of EUR 799.99 (approx. CZK 20,000 with VAT) and will include a 2TB SSD, a wireless controller and the game Astro’s Playroom. It will be delivered without the Disc Drive mechanism, which can be purchased separately. Pre-orders will start on September 26, with sales starting on November 7, 2024.
