Sony is reportedly working on a portable PlayStation, but it won’t be right away

According to leaks, Sony is preparing a portable PlayStation handheld console. However, the project is in the early stages and it is not at all clear whether the product will actually be presented.

According to reports, Sony is returning to the idea of portable gaming devices. The new project should bring a console that will allow you to play games from the PlayStation 5. Unlike the recently released PlayStation Portal, which acts as a remote player for games streamed from the PS5, this time it should be a fully standalone console-style Nintendo. However, we will have to wait some time for the final product – its launch could be several years away.

Sony is yet to confirm any details. However, it will not be easy to compete with Nintendo or Microsoft. Nintendo plans to launch a new generation of its popular Switch console next year. Microsoft, on the other hand, is speculating about the development of its own portable Xbox, which, however, is definitely not a question of the near future.

Konzole Steamdeck

Sony has a rich history in the field of portable consoles, from the original PlayStation Portable to the PS Vita. However, many years have passed since these devices and the market has changed a lot in the meantime. Valve showed with its Steam Deck that there is still a lot of interest in quality handhelds. In addition, competition from brands such as Asus, Lenovo or Logitech shows that the development of portable consoles is now on course.

If Sony really gets into the project, it will have to deal with a lot of competition. But the key to success can be a game library with exclusive titles. Still, it’s possible that Sony will change its plans or abandon the project altogether if it turns out to be too risky.
