Sony wants to combat input lag with AI that can predict your next move

Sony has interesting plans for the PlayStation. The Japanese company has filed two patents that recently came to light. For example, it wants to use the DualSense controller as a weapon and has the solution for input lag with the AI.

In the patent can be seen that Sony uses a camera to control the AI. By monitoring both the player and the controller and recording actions, the AI can predict which button the gamer will press next. This allows it to activate the linked action in advance to prevent delays.

Delays mainly occur while playing online games. Players with a less stable internet connection sometimes encounter the problem that they press a certain button, but it only causes an action on the screen later. Something that can disrupt the party in games like EA Sports FC or Call of Duty.

Sony wants DualSense as a gun

Speaking of Call of Duty: Sony is looking at a way to play the shooters in a different way than now. The Japanese company has filed a patent for a trigger that fits onto the DualSense controller, allowing players to use it as a gun.

According to the patent the intention is to turn the controller over so that the space between the R1 and R2 buttons can be used as a crosshair. In combination with other accessories such as a VR headset, this could significantly change the gaming experience for first person shooters.

To be clear: companies file an incredible number of patents every year, which does not immediately mean that the innovations will actually appear. But it’s always interesting to see how Sony wants to solve certain problems with the PlayStation.
