Sony Xperia 1 VI received support for Wi-Fi 7: Advantages and availability

The Sony Xperia 1 VI debuted in the first half of this year. More than four months away, the top model of the Japanese manufacturer has received a software update.

This update brings with it support for Wi-Fi 7, a next-generation wireless connectivity technology.

What Wi-Fi 7 brings

Wi-Fi 7, also known as 802.11be, is a major leap forward in wireless connectivity. Why?

The answer is simple: because it offers impressive transfer speeds and much improved connection stability.

Among the notable advantages of this technology is up to 100 times lower latency compared to its predecessor, Wi-Fi 6.

In other words, the user experience is much smoother, especially for those applications that require a fast response time, such as online games or HD video streaming.

Performance even in crowded environments

Furthermore, Wi-Fi 7 operates on the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz frequency bands, which translates into an ability to avoid interference in environments where there are many wireless networks.

We are also talking about a maximum theoretical transfer speed that can reach the value of 46 Gbit/s.

This capability is more than essential for virtual reality, augmented reality or extended reality.

The update, gradually available

It’s important to note that the update bringing Wi-Fi 7 support to the Xperia 1 VI is rolling out in stages, meaning some regions will get it before others.

To take full advantage of this new wireless standard, users will also need a Wi-Fi 7-compatible router.

Other changes

Beyond this update, the phone stands out for several other notable changes compared to its predecessor, the dimensions being the first.

The new model no longer has the 21:9 aspect ratio, but a wider and shorter design, similar to what competitors such as the Galaxy S24 Ultra offer.

Another change can be seen at the level of the screen, where the resolution has been reduced from 4K to FHD+. Although at first glance this might seem like a step backwards, in reality this decision benefits battery life.

In addition, the new FHD+ screen is brighter and benefits from a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz.
