Apple with its latest update on iOS 18 also introduced arrival RCS messages, which will replace classic SMS. RCS offers a lot of advantages over SMS such as group chats, emoji reactions, location sharing and high definition media sharing, which makes it indispensable nowadays. However, the app Google News compresses and reduces the size of images sent via RCS, reducing the quality of the result. Fortunately, this problem could be solved soon, he informs AndroidPolice.

Currently the Google News app compressed photography sent via RCS, limiting the resolution to 2048 pixels high. With the “send photos faster” option, the compression is reduced even further, to 1,600 pixels, losing detail. Few people would want that when transferring multimedia files, and that’s why a change is coming.
Google is working to increase this compression limit for a better experience sending messages. According to the analysis, the new RCS compression settings could allow images to be sent up to 8192 pixels, JPEG quality set to 100. If “send photos faster” option is enabled, images will be compressed to 2048 pixels with the JPEG quality reduced to 90.
An improvement, but not for everyone
If this change is implemented, the image quality in RCS reports will improve significantly, although it may still lag behind the competition. WhatsApp for example, it also compresses photos by default, but offers options to share images in HD or original resolution. The change will thus affect the majority android smartphone users, but let’s face it, who among us sends pictures via SMS (MMS) these days?
