South Korea organizes military exercises after North Korean missile launches
South Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile into the sea as part of military exercises in response to two recent missile launches by Pyongyang, the South Korean military said on Friday, as quoted by AFP.
The South Korean military “conducted a live-fire surface-to-surface missile exercise in the West Sea”, also known as the Yellow Sea, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement.
The drills come a week after nuclear-armed North Korea tested a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), which Pyongyang touted as the most advanced in its arsenal.
North Korea carried out a second launch on Tuesday, firing a barrage of short-range ballistic missiles, hours before the US presidential election.
“Through this live-fire exercise, our military has demonstrated its firm determination to firmly respond to any North Korean provocation,” the South Korean military said.
