A space probe is safe and in normal operation after being closer to the Sun than any other man-made object.
That is according to the space agency Nasa.
The space probe is called ‘Parker Solar Probe’ and passed the Sun on Tuesday at a distance of 6.1 million kilometres. This means that the unmanned craft flew into the Sun’s outer atmosphere, which is also called the corona.
According to Nasa, the mission team received a signal tone from the craft shortly before midnight on Thursday.
The craft is expected to transmit detailed measurement data regarding its condition on January 1, Nasa said.
The mission is to help researchers learn more about the Sun.
The Sun is the central star of the solar system and the star closest to Earth.
