Milorad Lalić and winner Stefan Zekanović in the senior final

The hall of the Church Municipality of Sveti Sava in Woodville Park was last Saturday a gathering place for athletes from the Serbian community in Adelaide.

At the traditional, sixth in a row table tennis tournament, a large number of competitors gathered in two competitions – senior and junior – who showed enviable knowledge in handling a racket and a plastic ball.

Competitors of all ages competed

The organizers from the Australian branch of the organization “Serbs for Serbs” expressed their satisfaction with another successful humanitarian event and emphasized how important it is for them that young competitors were in the center of attention.

“Just like last year, we put the emphasis on younger participants, and in addition to the senior section, we also organized a competition in the junior section. Last year’s champion Danilo Mrlješ managed to justify his role as the best junior table tennis player this year as well. “He defeated Andrej Lalić in an exciting final with a lot of twists and turns,” the organizers pointed out.

It is interesting that there was no change in the throne even in the senior competition. Last year’s champion Stefan Zekanović defended his title, defeating second-placed Milorad Lalić in an equally exciting final.

“Serbs for Serbs” announced that 1,945 dollars in donations were collected during the event in Woodville Park.

“We collected the final amount primarily thanks to Goran Mrlješ, Milorad Lalić and Vladimir Petrović, who donated and prepared two gourmet kettles. Also, we owe thanks to the members of the Circle of Serbian Sisters of St. Jelena, who were with us this time as well and donated the entire proceeds from the sale of doughnuts. At the same time, we would like to thank Srđan Jovanović, in front of the church municipality, who is always there for us”, said the organizers.
