Back in June, the service added a basic ad-free subscription aimed at non-listeners in select markets audiobooks. It is slightly cheaper than the Premium subscription precisely because of their absence. Now, on the other hand, he is preparing a more expensive subscription, with which he wants to appeal to a more demanding audience and audiophiles.
This was confirmed directly by Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek in a conversation about the company’s financial results. According to him, a more premium subscription could cost more $5 more than the current subscription price Spotify Premium. This means a price of 17 to 18 dollars in the American market.
What will the new subscription bring?
The main attraction of the new subscription should be the lossless function 24-bit audio until 44,1 kHz. However, it will only be available for selected songs via audio format FLAC. Currently, three competing services support lossless audio – Amazon Music, Apple Music a TIDAL.
Another bonus should be the ability to create custom playlists based on specific dates, events, activities, etc. There is even supposed to be an algorithm that will try to predict the user’s preferences and create playlists accordingly. Additional features of the new subscription will be announced when it is officially launched.
