- Spotify is testing parental controls as part of a pilot program
- It could be available for Premium Family subscribers
- The feature will allow parents, for example, to block songs with explicit lyrics
The Swedish company Spotify is here with a move that we have been waiting for a long time. On Friday, she announced that she was launching a pilot parental control program. This will take the form of managed accounts for children under the age of 13. According to the available information, the new function should initially be launched only in selected markets, for example in Denmark, Sweden or New Zealand. If the program is successful, it is very likely that we will see parental control in our country as well.
The feature will be available as part of a Family Premium subscription, and when parents activate it, they can prevent watching video clips or playing individual songs that have been marked as explicit. But parents also have the ability to specifically choose which songs or artists their child can listen to. Until now, only the very hackneyed Spotify Kids app served this purpose.
By launching this feature, Spotify follows the steps of other technology giants, such as TikTok, Meta or YouTube, which have recently tried to help parents control how their children use these applications. This tendency stems from the awareness of the companies themselves, but mainly thanks to the pressure of the regulatory authorities.
Do you see the introduction of parental controls on Spotify as a positive step?
