Spotify will offer a new subscription. How much does it cost and what benefits does it offer?

Last month, Spotify made a $10.99 Basic subscription available to US users without ads while listening to their favorite songs. Rumors about a more expensive variant have been circulating over time, but nothing materialized. The app’s CEO recently announced changes to the plan.

Spotify Deluxe subscription price

Daniel Ek, the mastermind behind the popular music streaming platform, has new news on the subject. According to it, there will eventually be a Deluxe subscription for Spotify users. It would cost around $17-18, about $5 more than the premium one.

Spotify plans to reach 251 million premium subscribers by the end of the year. It also expects total revenues of €4 billion. The number of monthly active users of the platform currently stands at 626 million.

What benefits will the new plan have?

Ek also announced that Deluxe is still in its early stages but will offer many benefits. Among them, improved controls and higher quality audio. Amazon Music and Apple Music already offer standard subscriptions that cost around $11 and users enjoy excellent audio quality.

Two-step authentication

As for other changes, Spotify has started implementing two-factor authentication. To be able to use the platform, the user must enter a code sent to the email address used when registering on Spotify. Not everyone was thrilled with the new service.

The reason? The 2FA feature is being rolled out gradually, so only some users get the option to use the code for authentication. Also, the codes are not requested every time the user logs into their account. Support for 2FA has, until recently, only existed for artists using Spotify.
