Squid Announces New Album ‘Cowards’ and Shares ‘Crispy Skin’

English quintet Squidknown for mixing genres, have announced a new album. Their third LP, “Cowards,” arrives on February 7th via Warp. As an introduction to the album, they presented the song “Crispy Skin“. Check out the catchy music video below.

The song “Crispy Skin” opens the album with the sounds of a synthesizer that quickly flows into a powerful rhythm. The mysterious video was directed by Takashi Ito, as an adaptation of his short film Zonein which the focus is on a person without a face.

Vocalist Ollie Judge sings, “I can’t take a bite anymore/ No more pages and pages of fried crusts.” He reveals that the theme of the song was inspired by the novel Tender Is the Fleshin which a virus contaminates all meat, leading to the normalization of cannibalism. “People are made and sold in supermarkets,” Judge explains. The poem considers how a moral compass would work in such stories of despair and horror.
