Starbucks removed coffee with olive oil from the menu
Starbucks is removing its popular coffee with olive oil from the offer in the US and Canada from the beginning of November. The announcement comes a week after new director Brian Nicoll promised to change the cafeteria’s menu in a bid to win back customers.
The company’s sales are falling as consumers see their budgets strained by the rising cost of living. Starbucks says it will offer drinks Oleato continue to exist in some sales facilities in Italy, Japan and China.
“Although the decision was made before Brian Nichol took on the role of CEO, the decision to drop some drinks is in line with his strategy to simplify our menu,” a Starbucks spokesperson told BBC.
Nikol, who previously headed the Mexican food chain Chipotlewas brought to Starbucks to help improve the business. Last week he promised to simplify what he described as an “overly complex menu”.
Sales fell despite Starbucks’ efforts
Brian Nicol’s comments resonated with the public when Starbucks announced that its global sales fell 7 percent between July and September compared to a year earlier.
The giant released it into traffic Oleato drinks across North America less than a year ago, after initially being sold in Italy. Its launch was part of an attempt to restore the chain’s fortunes.
The assortment includes ice espresso and latte with olive oil and oat milk.
The products were created by Starbucks founder Howard Schultz, who said he was inspired by a visit to olive groves in Sicily. Schultz came up with the idea “after learning about the Mediterranean custom of consuming a spoonful of olive oil every day,” according to a Starbucks 2023 press release.
However, the drinks have received mixed reactions from customers, with some complaining of stomach aches or intestinal problems.
