Starting today, small devices must have a USB-C port

From today, small devices in the European Union must have a USB-C port that allows them to be charged. A new European law that regulates this came into effect today.

Of new regulations applies to smartphones, gaming consoles, headphones, speakers and tablets, among others. Laptops do not yet have to have a USB-C port with which they can be charged. This will be mandatory from April 2026.

The new legislation should put an end to all kinds of different cables for different devices. The idea is that you will soon only need one cable to charge all your devices. Electronic waste must be reduced in this way.

More and more devices have USB-C

More and more devices have USB-C ports that allow them to be charged. For example, Apple has stopped using the Lightning port on the iPhone because of the new rules. MacBooks can be charged with both USB-C and MagSafe.
