Statement from the Police on the claim of ‘attack on scientists’

Malatya Police Department made a statement regarding the allegations of “an attempted attack on the academic couple”.

According to the investigation, in the accident with material damage that occurred in Yakınca Neighborhood of Yeşilyurt district on July 21, while the complainant M.T. was driving his vehicle, the driver of the vehicle with the license plate 44 ACS 482 suddenly changed lanes and caused a material damage accident, and then a short argument took place with the complainant. “Meanwhile, while our traffic team conducting patrol duty intervened and took the necessary actions, the suspicious individuals tried to escape from the scene of the incident with the vehicle with license plate number 44 ACS 482. Our traffic team physically followed the vehicle in question and caught the individuals. After it was understood that the suspicious individual had 1.46 per mille alcohol level during the checks, the necessary penalties were applied in terms of traffic and the vehicle was banned from traffic. After it was determined that the suspect named ALE was wanted for the crime of ‘trafficking in narcotics or stimulants’ during the checks, the individual was brought to the police station and the necessary legal actions were taken for the crimes of ‘damaging property, intentional injury and insult.'”

The statement, which conveyed that B.Ç., who was with the driver of the vehicle, served as a contracted military personnel between 2019-2020 and that he left his post upon the expiration of his contract period, stated that “Since the person did not intervene in the incident and there were no complaints about him, no legal action was taken. The suspect, ALE, who was caught, was detained in accordance with the instructions received from the Malatya Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and referred to the judicial authorities, and was released on condition of judicial control by the court to which he was brought.”
