Steve Harris and Iron Maiden have paid tribute to former singer Paul Di’Anno following his death

metal legend, Iron Maidenshe paid tribute to the former frontman Paulu Di’Annowho died at the age of 66. On social media, the band highlighted Di’Anno’s “pioneering” role as singer from 1978 until his departure in 1981. The group’s founder, bassist and main songwriter, Steve Harrisrevealed that he had been in contact with him in recent weeks.

“We are very saddened by the news of Paul’s death,” the band said in a statement. “Paul’s contribution to Iron Maiden has been enormous and has helped set us on the path we’ve been on for nearly five decades. His presence as a frontman and vocalist, both on stage and on the first two albums, will be fondly remembered by us, as will fans around the world.”

“We’re going to miss him,” says Steve Harris. “I’ve only recently been in contact with him, we’ve been exchanging messages about West Ham and their ups and downs. I’m glad that he performed almost until the end, it motivated him. Rest in peace, my friend.”

“We are extremely grateful that we had the opportunity to meet a couple of years ago and spend time with him again,” adds Maiden. “On behalf of the band, Rod and Andy, as well as the whole team Iron Maidenour deepest condolences to Paul’s family and close friends. Rest in peace, Paul.”

News of Di’Ann’s death was announced by his label earlier today. They also shared a recent photo of Di’Anna and Steve Harris together. The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed.
