The president of Suzuki has suggested that the Japanese brand has no plans to make an electric or hybrid version of the Jimny, given that electrification would “ruin” it.
Earlier information indicated that the Jimny will get a fully electric version, and a hybrid variant was also discussed, Autocar reminds.
However, in a conversation with journalists at the launch of the eVitara, Toshihiro Suzuki seemed to dispel all speculations. “If you’re talking about a Jimny EV, I think that would destroy the best part of the Jimny,” he said. “I think the main strength of the Jimny is the weight.”
Instead, Toshihiro Suzuki wants to focus on continuing the Jimny line with “professionals”. “If we want to continue to provide the Jimny to the market as a tool for professionals, perhaps e-fuel or biofuel using SUS technology would be the way to keep the Jimny in the future,” he said.
