The blog post states that Stiver died using assisted suicide, legalized in Germany.

“If I don’t unsubscribe on Monday, it means it worked. Please publish this information on Tuesday,” Stiver wrote in his latest post on Flibust.

In September, Stiver announced that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and was closing the project due to the fact that the servers had been paid for for several weeks. However, Stiver later wrote that the servers were paid and “the site is functioning in a stable mode.”

Flibusta was launched in 2009. The online library offers free electronic versions of books in different languages. In April 2016, due to complaints from copyright holders, the Moscow City Court blocked online library, as well as its two “mirrors”.
