Stock up on metro tickets before prices increase

On January 1, 2025, a metro ticket in Île-de-France will cost 2.50 euros, regardless of the destination chosen. Until December 31, it is still possible to buy single tickets at a price of 1.73 euros using booklets.

In 2025, public transport in the Ile-de-France region will undergo a revolution. In addition to an increase in the price of the monthly Navigo, which goes from 86.40 to 88.80 euros per month, the Île-de-France region will completely review its ticket pricing. Place the single ticket valid regardless of the destination chosen, with two prices to remember: 2,50 euros for the metro and RER, 2 euros for the bus and the tram. The T+ ticket costs 2.15 euros today, or 1.73 euros in booklets.

Is it possible to pay less? Two solutions exist: register for the Liberté+ program with tickets at 1.99 euros (1.60 euros for the bus) or stock up on tickets at the old price (1.73 euros in a book). We’ll explain how to do it.

How to buy tickets at the old price?

Until December 31, the Île-de-France Mobilités application, the Apple Cartes application and RATP terminals will continue to offer T+ tickets at the old prices. They will be valid until the end of 2025without the possibility of going to destinations outside Paris.

To pay less in 2025, it is perfectly possible to stock up on tickets before the end of the year. You have two options: use a plastic Navigo Easy card, or use your smartphone.

How to save money with the Navigo Easy card?

Marketed at the price of 2 eurosthe map I navigate Easy allows you to store dematerialized transport tickets on a plastic card. It can be recharged at the station (at a terminal) or on a smartphone, from the Île-de-France Mobilités application.

Until December 31, it is possible to buy a book of 10 tickets for 17.35 euros, or 1.73 euros per ticket. Attention : the limit is 30 tickets. To build a large stock, buy several cards.

How to use your smartphone to buy tickets at the old price?

Since May 2024, all smartphones can replace a Navigo Easy pass. It is possible to buy notebooks for 17.35 euros with your iPhone or Android smartphone, then bring it close to the terminal to enter the metro, bus, tram or RER.

How to buy a ticket book for 1.73 euros on iPhone?

All iPhones from the XR/XS, running iOS 17.5 or higher, are compatible with the dematerialized Navigo pass. There is no need to install any app, just open Apple Mapspre-installed software, to create a virtual card and reload it:

  • Open Apple Maps.
  • Touch the + button top right.
  • Choose the option Transportation card in the drop-down menu.
  • Opt for Navigowhich should appear at the very top.

  • Click on Continuethen choose a plan. THE Card 10 t+ corresponds to your wish.
  • Touch Acheter and accept the general conditions.
  • Use Apple Pay to pay (if you don’t have Apple Pay you can download l’application Île-de-France Mobilities on the App Store).
  • All you have to do is tap your phone on the terminal to enter the metro. It will also work when turned off.

To avoid fraud, Île-de-France Mobilités limits the number of tickets per virtual pass to 30. This is not a problem on iPhone, where you can create as many virtual Navigo passes as you want from Apple Maps. Only thing to know: only one card works with the phone turned off. When you have used up the first one, remember to change the “express” card in the settings (it is also possible to create a card from your Apple Watch).

How to buy a ticket book for 1.73 euros on Android?

On Android smartphones, you must use a third-party application. The software Île-de-France Mobilitiesavailable on the Play Store, is mandatory to be able to use your smartphone as a Navigo pass.

Once the application is installed and opened, you need:

  • Select tab Purchase.
  • If the option appears, choose On my smartphone and follow the connection procedure. You may need to install another application (My Navigo tickets) and create an account.
  • Select the option IndividuallyThen Card of 10 T+ tickets.
  • Pay with the payment method of your choice and your smartphone can serve as a validator. Please note, only Samsung phones work when turned off. The others must have battery.

Here too, the limit is 30 tickets. As far as we know, it is impossible to generate multiple virtual cards on Android.

Subscribe to Liberté+ for tickets at 1.99 euros?

Last option if you don’t want to stock up on tickets: subscribe to the Liberté+ package which, in exchange for an IBAN, takes your actual consumption at the end of the month. You don’t have to do anything except validate each time, Île-de-France Mobilités ensures that it sends you the correct invoice at the end of the month. The Liberté+ package offers prices at 1.99 euros per ticket (metro and RER) and 1.60 euros (bus and tram). It is valid in all five zones. Depending on your use, especially if you take the bus a lot, it is more advantageous than a notebook at the old price.
