Storm Kirk caused six incidents on four islands in the Azores

Storm Kirk, which hit the Azores archipelago this Tuesday, caused six incidents, three of which were recorded on the island of Terceira, one in São Miguel, one in Faial and another in Flores, reported the Azorean Civil Protection.

In a report made at 6:40 pm local time (7:40 pm in Lisbon), the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) said that during the afternoon three incidents were recorded related to two tree falls (in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira) and a scaffolding fall (in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel).

The fall of the structure in São Miguel did not cause any injuries, but “it caused damage to two vehicles”.

Between 00:00 and 12:00 local time, Storm Kirk caused three incidents on the islands of Flores, Faial and Terceira, according to the SRPCBA.

“It was a night without major constraints, where there was only a small incident on the island of Flores, in a small wooden stall, in the Municipal Market of Santa Cruz. This small occurrence was detected by our team that was on the ground, which was deployed to the island of Flores”, said the vice-president of SRPCBA, Bruno Nogueira, at a situation point, this morning, in Angra do Heroísmo.

The official indicated that “two more small occurrences” were recorded: “a tilted electricity pole” on the island of Faial, which is already “duly limited and being corrected”, and the fall of a tree in Angra do Heroísmo, “with partial obstruction of the road, which has now been completely resolved.”

“It was effectively a calm night”, summarized Bruno Nogueira.

According to the SRPCBA, throughout the day, members of the firefighters, the Municipal Civil Protection Services, the Public Security Police (PSP), the Regional Directorate of Forestry Resources and the EDA were involved in supporting and resolving the situations recorded in the archipelago.
