The strawberry ampel is a great alternative if there is no space in the land to grow strawberries.
Ampelstrawberry (Strawberry x pineapple) is a fruitful berry plant for patios, balconies and greenhouses.
The varieties planted in ampels are continuous-yielding, meaning they bloom and produce berries throughout the summer.

Buy ready-made strawberryampel or plant the seedlings yourself
The ampel strawberry is most convenient to get already planted in an ampel. Then you can be sure that the variety has been chosen in such a way that the seedlings produce a crop for even months.
Of course, you can buy strawberry plants separately and plant them in the ampel yourself. Make sure from the seller that the variety you buy has a continuous harvest.
You can plant 2-4 strawberry plants in a 20-25 centimeter diameter ampel. Pre-fertilized and limed general soil is suitable as a growing medium. To make watering easier, you can mix irrigation crystals or biochar into the soil.
Plant the seedlings so that the growth points are just above the soil surface. Note that the soil compacts and settles when you water it for the first time after planting.
The monthly strawberry, which produces a crop for a long time, is also suitable as an ampelous plant, but it does not make clumps. The berries are small but especially sweet and the yield is large.

Strawberry ampel care
Start fertilizing the seedlings already a couple of weeks after planting or bringing the ampel home with a fertilizer added to the water during watering
Giving additional nutrients can also be done by adding long-term fertilizer to the soil, such as fertilizer cones, from which the nutrients dissolve little by little.
The strawberry ampel is watered several times a week, depending on the place of growth. Water the soil at once until it is moist and let it dry between waterings.
If the ampule feels heavy in the hand, it is sufficiently moist.
The ampelstrawberry thrives in a sunny and warm place to grow. Excellent growing places are glazed balconies and terraces that collect heat, as well as greenhouses.
If the place is semi-shaded, watering is needed less than in the shade. The crop may suffer from a lack of light.
Ampel strawberries are perennial, but they do not overwinter in freezing temperatures. In autumn, take the strawberry ampel to the basement or other cool space. Seedlings also overwinter in compost, vegetable garden or buried under a log.
Bring the strawberry ampel to light and warmth in the spring, and growth will begin. If the seedlings grow in the same ampel for years, the mulch can be added or changed every few years.
You get more seedlings from clumps
Ampelstrawberry can be added from the clumps that it grows in the tap box. The formation of clumps may consume the strength of the seedling to produce a crop.
The fastest way to add strawberries is to cut the clumps and plant the clumps in pots. There are also seeds available, from which it takes weeks to grow seedlings before planting.
Monthly strawberries are always grown from seeds that are sown for seedling growth already in the spring and winter before planting.
Astrawberry is usually healthy plant
Clean, healthy seedlings and an airy growth keep the ampelstrawberry best free from diseases and pests.
Sometimes the ampelstrawberry is plagued by strawberry mites, which suck the leaves and flower stems, which dry up and become sugary. A badly damaged plant should be composted and a new seedling should be obtained.
Gray mold is a common fungal disease that can spoil berries in a rainy summer. Remove spoiled leaves and berries and place the ampel in a place where air circulates.
