Striking research from BES-AR: The hunger limit exceeded 29 thousand TL! – Last Minute Economy News

Office Workers Union Research Center (BES-AR) shared its hunger and poverty line research for November.

According to BES-AR’s research, the monthly expenditure required for a healthy diet for a civil servant family of four was stated as 29 thousand 100 liras in November.

Noting that the cost of living of a single single employee is 39 thousand 341 liras, BES-AR defines poverty as the total amount of food expenditures and other mandatory monthly expenses for clothing, housing (rent, electricity, water, fuel), transportation, education, health and similar needs. He stated that the limit is 78 thousand 617 liras.

BES-AR noted that those with a minimum wage of 17 thousand 2 liras in 2024 received a wage of 71.15 percent below the hunger line, which is 29 thousand 100 liras.

BES-AR emphasized the following in its research:

– The cost of a healthy diet exceeded 969 liras per day.

– In 2024, the minimum wage remained below the hunger line.

– In metropolitan cities, public workers have to pay almost 75-80 percent of their salaries for rent to meet their housing needs.

– In metropolitan cities, public workers are forced to live together with 3 or 5 people, such as in student housing, to meet their housing needs.
