Minister of Justice Boris Susko (Smer) does not anticipate the need for another extraordinary meeting of the National Council of the Slovak Republic on the Criminal Code. He believes that the fundamental comments of the European Commission have already been incorporated into the law.
“I believe that we have incorporated the fundamental reservations of the European Commission, and we are trying to gradually explain the other reservations that are still on the table to the European Commission,” said the minister during Thursday’s press conference. According to him, some comments of the European Commission are based on incorrect information. He mentioned, for example, the issue of the penalty for confiscation of property.
The amendment to the Criminal Code responding to the comments of the European Commission was approved by the National Council of the Slovak Republic at an extraordinary meeting in July. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini signed the amended legislation on Thursday.
