DAPURPACUID – Currently, many new car manufacturers in Indonesia are presenting various electric vehicle models, with the reason of supporting the government’s program related to electrification.
But in essence they are aggressively presenting environmentally friendly vehicles. No exception for PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS), which in the past two years has marketed mild hybrid electrification vehicles.
Although it has just introduced its first pure electric car concept eVX at GIIAS 2024, Suzuki considers hybrid technology to be the most suitable and still needed for the automotive industry in Indonesia.
For Suzuki itself, with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology that it carries, it can be a bridge to further electrified vehicles.
Moreover, the hybrid car offered by Suzuki has the cheapest price compared to other manufacturers, where the price tag offered starts from IDR 276.2 million to the most expensive IDR 387.4 million (depending on the model).
Suzuki itself since 2022, has marketed three hybrid models with SHVS technology that are marketed in the country. The three are Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and the latest XL7.
“We from Suzuki Indonesia believe that through this hybrid technology, there is sustainable growth that is greatly needed by the automotive industry, to move towards a sustainable emission reduction plan,” said Harold Donnel, 4W Marketing Director of PT SIS, some time ago.
Harold further said that Suzuki’s decision to market hybrid cars was because bridging people’s habits from conventional cars (Internal Combustion Engine/ICE) to electric cars was not easy.
According to Dept. Head Strategic Planning Department PT SIS, Joshi Prasetya, electrification is still considered something new among the public. As a result, he said, gradual education and popularization are needed while considering the consumer’s economic scale.
“With the right technology and affordable prices so that people can buy more of these vehicles and experience them. That’s what we call popularization,” he explained.
On the other hand, the response to hybrid cars continues to experience rapid growth every year. Gaikindo data released, throughout 2023, sales of electric and hybrid cars experienced significant growth compared to the previous year.
In that year, electric car sales reached 17 thousand units. Meanwhile, hybrid car sales were able to reach 54 thousand units throughout the year.
So it can be said that the presence of hybrid models in the Indonesian automotive market is more in demand than the series of electric cars, which are increasingly flooding in 2023.
Suzuki itself presents hybrid technology as an innovative solution to reduce emissions and save fuel. The SHVS system is equipped with main components in the form of an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) and a lithium-ion battery.
The ISG component plays a dual role, namely as a starter that starts the gasoline engine and as a generator that produces electricity during regenerative braking.
Meanwhile, the electrical power generated is then stored in a lithium-ion battery for use by the electric motor. (dpid/ADV)
