Suzuki’s first electric model will be developed in collaboration with Toyota

Suzuki and Toyota are expanding their partnership, so the Japanese manufacturer’s first electric model will be developed alongside Toyota.

Suzuki is set to launch its first electric model sometime next year, an evolution of the eVX concept, which has been shown in two iterations over the past two years. The new model will be developed together with Toyota and will also be sold under the Toyota brand, not just Suzuki, accordingly Carscoops.

Compared to other rivals in the segment of small SUVs, the upcoming Suzuki model will not have thermal or hybrid versions, but will be a fully electric SUV built on a dedicated platform. Suzuki, Toyota and Daihatsu collaborate for its development.

It has also been confirmed that Suzuki’s first zero-emission model will also be available in all-wheel drive configurations, so it will be more capable off-road than other cars in its class.

The first electric Suzuki will be launched next year

The manufacturer says that its future electric SUV will offer sufficient autonomy even for longer journeys, but also a comfortable interior, emphasizing the emphasis on practicality. The eVX concept was equipped with a 60 kWh battery, which Suzuki said was enough to provide a maximum range of around 500 km on a single charge.

Given the dimensions of the concept, the new electric model will fit into the ranges of the two Japanese manufacturers between crossovers such as the Suzuki SX4 or Toyota Yaris Cross. It remains to be seen if the version sold by Toyota will be restyled or just wear logo art, as we have seen in other partnerships between the two manufacturers.

Suzuki’s upcoming electric SUV will be manufactured in India at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat. The launch of the new model is planned for the spring of next year. Both companies want to sell the electric SUV worldwide.
