Funding for building the Haapsalu railway could come from the state’s mobility program, said Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Svet (Social Democratic Party), writes ERR.

Svet said that it is wrong to call the railway connection from Tallinn through Haapsalu to the port of Rohuküla the Haapsalu railway, because it has a much wider dimension – it is a new dimension in the transport between Hiiumaa and the mainland.

According to Sveti, the construction of this railway is part of the country’s mobility or public transport reform.

“At the moment, there is no financial cover for this project, and I think that after the mobility reform is adopted, we will have to come back to this issue,” stated Svet.
