In the municipality of Svilajnac, which has about 20,000 inhabitants, works on the construction of an extensive sewage network more than 70 kilometers long are currently being completed.

The sewage network will cover the needs of a large part of the population, more precisely, it will ensure that the city center is completely covered by sewage, while the coverage of the entire territory, together with the surrounding villages, will reach 70 percent.

In addition to this project, which is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, officials during the tour of the works also discussed the plan for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant, which should cover the needs of 20,000 inhabitants, as explained by the Deputy Prime Minister.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, additional initiatives to improve solid waste management were considered, including the potential construction of a recycling yard or transfer station. Such projects would enable more efficient waste management and a significant step forward in the elimination of illegal landfills, as stated on the website of the Government of Serbia.

The Municipality of Svilajnac was also awarded new vehicles and equipment for waste management, which enabled the local self-government to effectively use the resources offered for sustainable development by submitting projects to the tenders of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
