Domestic. The government now announces that it is spending over five billion kroner on buying Patriot robots.

The Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed an agreement with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to purchase Patriot robots of the GEM-T type, which are part of the combat-proven Patriot system.

The procurement takes place in collaboration with Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Spain, and includes a total of up to 1,000 robots at an order value of approximately SEK 60 billion.

“The joint procurement reduces the cost per robot and also strengthens the defense industrial base in Europe. This is done by establishing a new production line for Patriot robots in Germany. Previously, there were only production facilities for these systems in the United States,” the government writes in a press release.

The Patriot system is used by eight European countries to defend against cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and aircraft.

In addition to robots, the contract also includes qualification of updated components, test equipment and spare parts to support future maintenance in Europe.
