Media. Sveriges Radio’s “Ekot” has been condemned by the review committee for having broken the truth in a feature that was broadcast on July 1, 2024. The feature was about increased tensions between Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and Israel, but a description of the Golan Heights was considered misleading.

In the report, the reporter visited a restaurant in northeastern Israel, which remained open despite the fighting. The restaurant was described as being “at the foot of the Golan Heights in the north-eastern part of Israel”.

The review board considers that this may give the listeners a false impression that the Golan Heights belong to Israel, when in fact the area belongs to Syria but is annexed by Israel.

The board notes that the wording violated the requirement of objectivity and therefore rejects the element.
