The 29-year-old from Canberra in the Australia team for the first round of the team tournament, in Stockholm against Sweden: but Iga takes a stone away after the poisons on her.
Joys and sorrows for Nick Kyrgios. The good news was given to him by Lleyton Hewitt, captain of Davis’ Australian national team, who called him – surprisingly – for the first round of the next edition of the most prestigious tennis cup. The bad one, however, was delivered to him by Iga Swiatek through a podcast. The Polish lioness is tired of having become – like Jannik Sinner – the target of the invectives and barbs of the 29-year-old from Canberra. And she removed a stone from herself, finally responding to the poisons that Nick poured on her.
Davis Cup: Kyrgios called up for Sweden-Australia
It wasn’t a given Kyrgios’ call-up who will be part of the Australian expedition to Stockholm in the match against Sweden, scheduled between 31 January and 2 February. Kyrgios is Hewitt’s current call-up alongside Alex de Minaur, Jordan Thompson and Thanasi Kokkinakiswho will face Elias Ymer, Leo Borg, Andre Goransson and Filip Bergevi, the Swedish selection captained by Simon Aspelin. After having “tasted” the world of pro tournaments again, therefore, Kyrgios will also get back on track on the Davis front.
Training with Sinner: Nick’s attack on Cruz Hewitt
Kyrgios’ call-up follows the controversies and debates sparked – look at that – by him Nick’s over the top attitudes on social media. A few days ago Nick had commented harshly the training of Cruz Hewitt, the son of the Australia captain, with Jannik Sinner in Melbourne. Evidently Lleyton, former world number 1, understood the tone and ignored it. Kyrgios has known him all his life. Not so Iga Swiatek, who however was not as understanding.
Doping case, Swiatek replies – finally – to Kyrgios
The Pole, who spoke on the “Tennis Insider Club” podcast, he responded with a hard face to Kyrgios’s malice, without quoting him directly: “I feel at peace with myself, I haven’t done anything wrong but it’s difficult to see why almost no one thinks the same way. It’s not nice to be treated like you’re a liar“. And again: “I fought to make my dreams come true, all this leads people not to recognize my efforts and my results, as if they looked at me differently. Many came to ask me for autographs and selfies during the investigations and I wondered: What will they do when the matter comes to light?‘”.
