Happy new year! With an interesting 2024 behind us, we at Bright are of course very curious about what the year will bring us in the field of technology. Therefore, a small preview of the products we are most looking forward to.
Although some companies have already made clear their vision for the coming months, it remains a guess what will actually appear. In this article we rely largely on rumors that we saw in 2024.
So it is not wrong to take the following information with a grain of salt, as it is not official information. But if the next ten products actually appear in this form, we can’t wait to see them.
Nintendo Switch 2
We know for sure that he will come, but what exactly he has to offer remains a surprise. According to Nintendo itself, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced before the end of the first quarter, which means that we will know what to expect before the end of March.
The corridors are already talking about a similar design to the current model, but with a major upgrade in terms of performance. For example, Nintendo filed a patent this week for an AI technology that is directly linked to the new console.
The upgrade is welcome, as the current model’s hardware is starting to become quite outdated. So we are very curious to see what a new Nintendo Switch has to offer.
iPhone SE (4) / iPhone 16e
Apple has not had the best year in 2024, but it can start 2025 very strongly. The American company is working behind the scenes on a new SE model of the iPhone, which, due to its specifications, seems to come very close to the current iPhone 16. It is therefore not without reason that there are rumors about a name change from the SE to the iPhone 16e.
Apple reportedly provides the smartphone with the same design as the iPhone 14, but has chosen to add the action button and a USB-C connection to this model. The A18 chip is also expected with sufficient RAM for Apple Intelligence, a camera system with one lens and the first 5G modem developed by Apple itself.
It is not yet entirely clear when exactly the smartphone will appear, but if we look at previous revelations, it is smart to keep an eye on the news in March.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim en iPhone 17 Air
2025 could easily become the year of thin smartphones. Both Apple and Samsung are developing a model that stands out for its ultra-thin design. In this case it would concern the iPhone 17 Air and the Galaxy S25 Slim.
The Galaxy S25 Slim could be shown at the end of this month during the Unpacked event, where Apple will not show its variant until September. We won’t know what the difference is between the two until later this year, but various sources report that the two companies approach things slightly differently.
While the Galaxy S25 Slim will be 7mm thin and will abandon few premium features, the iPhone 17 Air with 6mm is Apple’s thinnest smartphone ever, albeit with less impressive specifications. So we are very curious about what consumers are sacrificing and which of the two companies is developing the concept best.
XR glasses Samsung and Google
That interesting battle starts in January. Samsung then announces XR glasses that it produces together with Google. The glasses, which must combine Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, will run on Android XR, a new operating system for such products.
Although Apple’s Vision Pro has been disappointing over the past year due to its price and growing pains, it will be interesting to see how Samsung and Google put such a concept into practice. In terms of design, Samsung’s XR glasses and Vision Pro do not seem to differ much from each other, but it does seem that Samsung has learned from the mistakes Apple has made with its glasses.
There is a good chance that Samsung will already show its XR glasses during the Unpacked event on January 22, although there are also rumors about a possible presentation during CES 2025, which starts next week.
Apple Intelligence
Although Apple Intelligence was released at the end of last year, it is not yet of much use to us in Europe. Apple has announced that AI for products such as the iPhone and iPad will also come to the Netherlands from April this year, and we are especially curious how it will work by then.
It is no secret that the rollout of artificial intelligence has been disappointing and that users worldwide have mainly received a stripped-down version. So we are very curious about which functions will come to our iPhones in the first half of this year and how long it will take until the Dutch language is also supported.
Smart glasses
Amid all the AI violence, 2024 was somewhat of the year of smart glasses. Completely unexpectedly, the Ray-Ban x Meta Smart Glasses were a huge success and Meta even managed to surprise with Project Orion.
We will not see that product as a retail version in the coming year, but it does show the technological possibilities. We are therefore especially curious how competing companies view the project and what their approach will be in the field of smart glasses.
Samsung Galaxy Ring 2
With its Galaxy Ring, Samsung managed to put the smart ring more on the map in 2024. Although players such as Oura are still lord and master and the price of Samsung’s model in particular was a major disadvantage, there seems to be great interest in the product.
Several rumors have already pointed to the introduction of a second version of the smart ring. We are very curious when we will see this, but especially what Samsung will do differently. People talk about improved battery life and more sensors, but practice will tell.
What we are especially curious about is what Samsung can do with the price of the Ring and whether a possible decrease can make the product more interesting for a larger audience.
Google Pixel 10
The Google Pixel 9 was an absolute hit in 2024. The smartphone even managed to transform our own Bram into a Pixel fanboy and was therefore given the title: Smartphone of the Year.
It is therefore not surprising that we are curious how Google will continue to build on that success in the anniversary year of the Pixel. Is the company really committed to Android 16 and Gemini support, or does it want to fanatically further develop the smartphone line?
Although OnePlus’ real glory days are now numbered, we cannot deny that the foldable OnePlus Open was a success. The Chinese company seemed to hit the nail on the head by actually combining a usable smartphone with a powerful tablet.
So it will be very interesting to see what the second generation of that device will be. In the corridors people talk about a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a larger battery capacity and a camera system with improved sensors. But what we are especially curious about is whether OnePlus will manage to bring down the price tag of a foldable smartphone.
Grand Theft Auto VI
It is not a hard tech product, but at Bright we cannot ignore Grand Theft Auto VI either. Certainly not if we are to believe Rockstar’s words and the first images. GTA VI will be a game changer in all areas, if only because of its popularity.
However, after last year’s trailer we have not seen any new images, which is why there is mainly speculation online whether GTA VI will really be released in 2025. But we have hope and secretly assume that we will be very warm around the holidays next year.
Would you like to follow all these developments closely in the coming year? Don’t worry, with the Bright app you will be informed very quickly.
