Syntagma Square: The Christmas tree was lit – Crowds of people at the festive events of Athens

Syntagma Square, 28 days before Christmas, “put on” its festive colors, as the Christmas tree was lit, turning the capital… into a fairy tale.

A large number of people gathered at the spot for the lighting event, which started today at 18.00. The city’s impressive Christmas tree, a 20-meter fir tree, arrived on 21/11 late at night from a nursery in Taxiarchis of Halkidiki and immediately began to be decorated with colorful, original ornaments, which will set the festive tone in Athens.

The “telling” of the Athenian Christmas fairy tale began on the bright stage of Syntagma Square, with a particularly beloved and successful duo, Nancy Zampetoglou and Thanasis Anagnostopoulos. The presenters of the evening together with the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, gave the signal to light up the fir tree, revealing the fairytale decoration of the entire Syntagma Square so that the Christmas magic could spread – more than any other year – to every corner of the city. Music cannot be missing from the evening. The dreamy voice of Nefelis Fasouli meets the Athens Big Band and together they present arrangements of favorite Christmas songs.

The festive event of the lighting of the Christmas tree is open to everyone, as it takes place with a parallel performance in Greek Sign Language by the interpreter Polybios Kosmatos.
