Tavascan’s cousin is revealed

Not planned for Europe, the Volkswagen ID. Unyx is a 100% electric SUV coupe that is nothing other than a Cupra Tavascan restyled for the Chinese market.

To complete its range of electric vehicles in China, the German firm has just unveiled a new SUV coupé specifically reserved for the Middle Kingdom: the Volkswagen ID. Unyx.

A Tavascan designed for China

This model is the first in a new “ID. Unyx” range designed for the Chinese market, which will include four new models by 2026. In practice, the Volkswagen ID. Unyx is nothing more than a Cupra Tavascan rebadgedwhich stands out with its Volkswagen logos, gold badges, Matrix LED headlights with a specific light signature, as well as its slightly redesigned front and rear ends.
The two models of the German group are in fact produced in China, in the Volkswagen factory in Hefei, located in the east of the country in the province of Anhui, and are based on the MEB platform Volkswagen dedicated to electric vehicles, while borrowing the technical structure of the Volkswagen ID.5. The version signed Cupra has been marketed in Europe since this summer, while the ID. Unyx will not be exported to the Old Continent.
No images of the interior have been revealed for the occasion, but we can easily imagine that the two models will share their cabin with a resolutely futuristic look.

Volkswagen ID. Unyx: up to 621 km of autonomy

Volkswagen does point out, however, that the ID. Unyx features an innovative human-machine interface, which includes a interactive 3d avatar based on theartificial intelligencewhose appearance can be configured via an app, and synchronized with the vehicle’s infotainment system. This avatar has a voice that can be configured and that allows it to engage in conversations with the user.
The ID. Unyx will have an entry-level electric motor 286 horsepower (210 kW) on the rear axle, powered by a 77 kWh battery nets, offering autonomy of up to up to 621 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle. An all-wheel drive version will also be offered, with two electric motors developing a total power of 340 horsepower (250 kW).
“With the new ID. UNYX, we are expanding the range of our ID. electric models in China with a pioneering product. We combine bold, progressive design with sustainable electric drive and a cutting-edge user experience. All of this fits perfectly with the times. Intelligently connected electric models like the new ID.
