Tax authorities change website and create new features

Anyone accessing the Tax Portal to issue a green receipt will find some changes. The Tax Authority has added some new features that, they say, aim to streamline and simplify the system.

Green receipts: there's news

Anyone who is self-employed and regularly issues so-called green receipts will find the Tax Authority billing portal with some changes.

The issue of invoices has been redesigned, with the provision of new features, such as the possibility of invoicing services subject to different VAT rates in the same document.

The main objective of these changes was to develop and simplify the system. Another feature now included in the system is that it allows self-employed workers to create a customer file, meaning that if they issue invoices to the same customer regularly, the issuing process will be made easier. According to the Tax Authority, after clicking on invoices and receipts on the home page of the Tax Authority portal, you will need to select the “customers” option. There you will need to enter the customer’s NIF, name and address.

You can also create product and service files if you regularly issue invoices for them. Instead of selecting the “customers” option, you must choose “products, services and others”. Then, you must indicate the reference of the product or service, as well as its description.

Social protection

What remains unchanged, for now, are the assumptions of social protection that those who work on green receipts can have from the State. Thus, despite doing Social Security discountsself-employed workers do not have exactly the same ease of access to many supports.

  • Unemployment. They have access to a subsidy for cessation of activity, provided that they are economically dependent on a single contracting entity.
  • Illness. They are entitled to sickness benefit as long as they have contributed for at least six months, consecutively or in between, and their Social Security contributions are up to date.
  • Parenting. They may receive parental allowance and other support of the same nature, provided that they have complied with the six-month guarantee period, consecutive or interpolated, with a record of remuneration and have their contribution situation regularized.

They can also receive benefits for occupational illnesses, disability, dependency, invalidity, old age and death.

As you can see, issuing green receipts has become simpler with the adoption of the new rules, but it requires greater attention from self-employed workers to avoid errors and tax non-compliance.

Between electronic invoicing, automatic tax calculation and new communication deadlines, professionals must be aware of all their tax obligations.

Furthermore, taxpayers must ensure that they are included in the correct tax regime (simplified regime or organized accounting) to avoid future problems. For new professionals or those who have doubts about the changes, it is advisable to consult an accountant or use the support services of the Tax Office.
