The American takes a stand on the latest doping cases with a frank and lucid analysis on X: lively exchange of opinions with a user, then the clarification.
After the case involving Jannik Sinner, the one involving Iga Swiatek: the number 1 in men’s tennis and the number 2 in the women’s circuit (but she was also at the top at the time of the check) results positive in anti-doping tests. What do tennis players think? And the fans? A very clear analysis was “given” by Taylor Fritz on social media. The American tennis player let off steam on his X account, becoming the protagonist of a series of frank reflections.
Swiatek suspended, Fritz’s position taken
Fritz, immediately after ITIA’s communication on the Swiatek case, shared a long and accurate analysis. “What drives me CRAZY in these situations (I’m talking about going on X) are not the cases themselves. It is difficult to know exactly what happened and all the details in these specific casesso speculating isn’t really my favorite thing to do. It’s okay to have your honest opinions, but what I fail to understand, and what is so upsetting to see as a player, is the CRAZY prejudice of the tennis public that supports whatever story pushes the agenda where they want it pushed.”
Fans in tennis and the prejudices denounced by Taylor
The American tennis player, ffinalist at the last US Open and the ATP Finals (in both cases he surrendered to Sinner) clarifies the concept better: “If it is a rival of the player you support who tests positive, then you are on the side of the ‘let’s call him a dope/cheat/disgrace him as much as possible’ and if it’s your favorite player who’s involved, then that is ‘innocent, no questions asked’. How can you not be able to remove your personal bias and form an educated and honest opinion?”
Tennis, for Fritz the innocent are treated like cheaters
Fritz’s reflection ends with a consideration with a bitter aftertaste: “Although as a player you can prove your innocence (I’m not saying anyone is or isn’t), people who support rival players and are prejudiced against you they will always continue to blindly claim that you are a cheater, and that fact really makes me sad for all the real innocent players who have to go through this.”
The back and forth with the user and the end of Fritz’s “outburst”.
A user replies – “Taylor, while I tend to agree with the view on fanbases, I think it’s wrong to paint us all with such a broad stroke. MoMany people have done the work and research to be able to report the hypocrisy that exists in these cases” – and Fritz replies in turn: “If you have done your research and formed an unbiased opinion, then this Tweet has absolutely nothing to do with you.” Then, in another Tweet: “Outburst over, I had to be honest as always“.
