After almost three decades closed, the old Teatro Variedades reopened this Saturday in Parque Mayer, in Lisbon, following the rehabilitation works it underwent. The reopening was carried out by the Mayor of the City Council, Carlos Moedas.

To mark the event, the open-air space of Parque Mayer, the Capitol and the Maria Vitória Theater are open this weekend with activities and concerts. All activities are free, but require a ticket available on site.

The new stage at Teatro Variedades debuted with the play “Entraria Nesta Sala”, by Ricardo-Vaz-Neves, which will be on stage in the same space from Wednesday until October 27th. The program will include pieces from several independent companies.

Originally designed by José Urbano de Castro, the theater was renovated by architect Manuel Aires Mateus. From the 1090 seats it once had, it now has a maximum capacity of approximately 300 seats.
