TECHAN: The winners of the Great Educational Recycling Competition of the Municipality of Athens & the 39 Municipalities of the Attica Region were awarded –

On the occasion of “World Day Against Plastic Bags” and completion of its Great Recycling Educational Competitions THEN DIDthe company, a pioneer in Corporate Social Responsibility and recycling actions, organized in Syntagma Square, a special award ceremony for winners-students of the school divisions in 39 Municipalities of the Region of Attica & Municipality of Athens.

Specifically, they were successfully organized and completed:

  • O «Large Educational Recycling Competition of Primary & Secondary Schools of the Municipality of Athens» in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens,

  • O «Great Educational Competition for the Recycling of Primary & Secondary Schools in 39 Municipalities of Attica» in cooperation with the Regional Union of Municipalities of Attica (PEDA), the Region of Attica, the Unified Interlevel Association of the Prefecture of Attica (EDSNA),

who were under her Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Religion & Sports.

At the Award Ceremony they were awarded the six school departments that recycled more than 2,600,000 materials in the high-tech Recycling Polycenters of TECHAN. In an atmosphere of celebration and commitment to the protection of the environment, more than 120 students, parents attended and teachers. In addition, they graced the award ceremony with their presence important representatives of the Government and Local Government, among which Mr. Nikos Papathanasis, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Ms Zetta MakriDeputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Mr. Manolis GrafakosSecretary General of Waste Management Coordination at the Ministry of Energy and Environment, Mr. George ZervosSpecial Secretary of the Ministry of National Economy & Finance, Mr. Harry DoukasMayor of Athens, Mr. George MarkopoulosMayor of Galatsi, President of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Attica and Mr. Nikos AvramidisVice President of the EDSNA Executive Committee.

For each of the “Major Educational Recycling Competitions for Primary & Secondary Schools” the there were three big prizes:

1st GIFT – PRIZE:

One (1) 5-day trip for all students of the school departments to any city in Europe chosen by the students themselves.

The winners with the first largest participation of the two competitions are the C3 section of the 8u of Athens High School and the B’ Applied Arts department of 1u EPAL of Korydallos, respectively, which recycled a total of more than 1,000,000 pieces.

2nd GIFT – PRIZE:

One (1) 5-day trip for all students of the school departments to any city in Greece chosen by the students themselves.

The winners with the second largest participation of the two competitions are the C2 division of 56u of Athens High School and the B2 section of 1u Model High School of Ilion, respectively, which recycled a total of more than 800,000 pieces.

3rd GIFT – PRIZE:

One (1) Smartwatch, for each student of all school departments.

The winners with the third largest participation of the two contests are the division B1 of 43u Lyceum of Athens and the 3rd Department of Informatics of 1u EPAL Korydallos, respectively, which recycled a total of more than 730,000 pieces.

The awards were presented by Mr. Apostolos Mourgos, President of TEHAN, Mr. Nikos Papathanasis, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Ms Zetta Makri, Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Mr. George Markopoulos, Mayor of Galatsi and President of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Attica and Mr. Nikos Avramidis, Vice President of the EDSNA Executive Committee.

THE President of TEHAN, Mr. Apostolos Mourgosstated in this regard: “Guys, congratulations! Recycling must become a daily habit of life to protect the environment. We must have a better future. Enjoy your gifts and keep recycling every day. All of us at TEHAN, thank you for your warm participation and we will continue to be by your side!”.

Mr. Nikos Papathanasis, Deputy Minister of Economy and Financehe continued: “Congratulations to everyone who participated. Recycling is very important. The plastic bag is doing great harm to our seas and beaches. We recycle to have a better future. The future belongs to you. Congratulations again.”

Mrs Zetta Makri, Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, completed: “The Ministry is proud of the children’s performance. As you know, he has included in the skills workshops, a thematic section on environmental protection. We have the Centers for Environmental Education and Sustainability. We do actions. We participate in European and international forums. We are proud that our children, from kindergarten to high school, absorb the knowledge that the trained teachers give them. Congratulations guys!”.

The TECHAN’s Large Educational Recycling Competitions which run on an annual basis, were a great success and attracted high participation. The initiative comes to seal the continuation of the corresponding competition held in 2023 in Thessaloniki and in June 2024 in the Peloponnese Region. The goal of the initiative is social and environmental awareness, but also the active participation of young people, especially students – in the recycling process.
