Teenage girl has died from her injuries after being hit

A 17-year-old girl, who was found dead on the street in Roskilde last week after being hit by a car, has died from her injuries.

This is according to Thomas Kristensen, head of communications at the Central and West Zealand Police.

The girl died at the weekend and her next of kin have been notified.

As a result of the girl’s death, the police have changed the charges against the driver who hit the girl last Monday. He is now charged with negligent homicide, the police say. The charge so far has been negligent bodily harm.

The accident occurred on the morning of Monday, January 6, when the weather was bad. Passers-by found the girl lying lifeless on Blågårdsstræde outside Bondetinget, and the police were alerted about the case at 08:18.

The 17-year-old was rushed to hospital, where her condition was described as critical for several days. It has not been possible to save her.

The police have previously said that a 46-year-old driver “with great certainty” accidentally hit the girl with his car in the bad weather.

The girl was probably hit by Stændertorvet and was subsequently dragged by car approximately 500 meters to Blågårdsstræde, where she was found.

Her belongings were later found at the crash site.

The driver did not realize that he hit the girl in the bad weather, or that she was being dragged with the car. But after media coverage of the case, the driver reported himself to the police on Monday afternoon and was questioned, after which he was released.

On Tuesday, deputy police inspector Lars Krogsgaard said that the release took place when it was assessed that there were no grounds for remanding the man.

– It is video surveillance, witness statements and his explanation that have overall given us a picture of the case, said the deputy police inspector to Ritzau.

The police have previously announced that there is no indication that the 46-year-old man was under the influence during the collision.

The 17-year-old was on his way to his education when the accident occurred.
