It seems that the task of breaking out of the grip of restrictions is becoming perhaps the most important on the current diplomatic agenda, despite the fact that at last year’s June meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian President placed the demand for the lifting of Western sanctions at the very end of the long list of conditions for the Ukrainian settlement.

However, just as Stirlitz taught that the last phrase is remembered, so in that memorable list the main one becomes the most extreme of all the listed options that Western opponents must accept for the sake of lasting peace in the world.

Of course, people have become the new oil, but the engine of geopolitical ambitions remains the economy, which is operating under significant overload. Russia, which passed the tests of the 90s, cannot be frightened by high inflation, food cards cannot confuse, and commodity shortages cannot be shaken.

The authorities hardly doubt that the Russian population has a reserve of safety, but cannot help but worry about the state of those key components of the economy on which the survivability of the system depends when external pressure increases and the conflict prolongs.

Just as Iraq exchanged oil for food in the hard years, the results of the confrontation achieved by Russia today require some conversion.

In a protracted confrontation with the West, as in any risky business project, the main thing is to get into the cash on time in order to stay with your own people, and if you are lucky, then with a bonus.
