Telekom: “Wiesn network” to ensure stable 5G mobile connection

Oktoberfest 2024

The Oktoberfest 2024 starts on September 21st. As was the case at the last European Football Championship, Deutsche Telekom is also providing special coverage for 5G mobile reception.

The 189th Oktoberfest starts next Saturday in Munich: From September 21 to October 6, 2024, numerous visitors are expected at the “Wiesn”. To ensure smooth mobile reception, Deutsche Telekom will provide additional 5G cell phone masts for the third time in a row.

As Germany’s largest operator in a Press release As explained, ten additional mast locations and four additional tent locations will be set up. These all operate on the faster 3.6 GHz frequency – with this special supply capacity, “a medium-sized city like Kassel” could theoretically be supplied with mobile communications.

The mobile antennas provided separately will also undoubtedly be necessary if the data from last year’s Oktoberfest is any benchmark: As Telekom explains, around 211 terabytes were transmitted on their network alone during the 2023 Wiesn. In addition, around 4.1 million phone calls were made. Overall, these figures represent an increase of around 28 percent compared to the previous year – a new data record is expected for the 2024 Oktoberfest.
