Hello.
Now that we’ve looked at ten reasons to buy the Fold6, we need to balance them out and talk about the reasons that might discourage you from buying it. Let’s take a closer look at each of these reasons.
Table of Contents
Reason #1: No charger included
What amazes me endlessly is the lack of a charger in the kit. A penny thing, Chinese companies add such adapters to their devices and do not see anything wrong with it. And only Samsung in the Android smartphone market does not do this, repeating what Apple did earlier. Some kind of pettiness, there is no other way to call it. I know at least several people who took this decision painfully. Flagships cost so much that not including a charger would be somehow ugly. And this does not add any points to Samsung. I have been saying this from day one and will continue to say it, the lack of a charger in the kit is a big minus.
Reason #2: Fast charging is a thing of the past
One of the most serious disadvantages of the model is fast charging. The device supports a 25 W charger, it charges it in 65 minutes (the battery is 4400 mAh). Against the background of Chinese manufacturers, who equip even budget models with 70 W chargers, and they charge larger batteries in 30-40 minutes, Samsung’s lag becomes obvious. In the area of chargers and charging speed, Samsung has not changed anything for quite a long time, the company has noticeably lagged behind the market. In some ways, we see a repeat of Apple’s stagnation, as if there is only one competitor on the market, which, of course, is not the case. And the company needs to change something, otherwise it risks losing the race of batteries and chargers altogether.
Reason #3. Front camera on the inner screen
When open, you can see the camera circle built into the screen. They tried to make it invisible, but the peephole is still visible from different angles, in different menus. On a white background, it becomes almost invisible, as well as on a black one. In all other cases, the eye guesses the presence of a camera.
The camera resolution is 4 megapixels, which is not much at all. But the worst thing is that the camera shoots poorly, the photos are pulled out by algorithms. But it is not possible to pull out video in the same way.
Look at the example video from the same camera, no tricks help here.
During video calls, you have to use the external screen if you don’t want to be seen as a blur. In short, the camera quality has been sacrificed for fashion, which seems stupid.
Reason #4. A crease on the screen
There is a crease on the inner screen, and it scares everyone who has never used such devices. It has become smaller than in the previous generation, not as noticeable, but still present (necessary to achieve maximum display life). For those perfectionists who cannot stand anything that is out of their ideas of beauty, this crease will be a pain. Perhaps, therefore, they can be advised to pass by the device, not to try to overcome themselves.
Reason #5. External screen, minor scratches
Formally, the Fold6 uses exactly the same glass as the previous device — Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. In fact, this is a marketing name for the glass, but its parameters may differ; the manufacturer may increase scratch resistance, sacrificing drop resistance. It seems that the Fold6 has actually improved drop resistance, since in a couple of weeks the screen was covered with small, almost invisible scratches (nothing like this happened on the S24 Ultra or Fold5). These scratches are visible only upon close inspection, in everyday life you will not pay any attention to them, and when the screen is on, they are not visible at all. However, unlike the previous Fold5, they appear (but there is no comparison with the Fold4, where the outer screen was heavily rubbed).
Reason #6: Heating under load
The smartphone uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen. 3 chipset, it is fast, but hot. The processor heats up under load so much that the case temperature can reach 40-42 degrees Celsius. The question remains open, what exactly will you do so that the device uses all the power of the processor, in normal tasks this does not happen. But if you suspect or know for sure that your tasks are heavy, load the processor, perhaps you should avoid this device, it has noticeable throttling, look at the graph yourself (here you should also remember that lowering the processor frequency here still gives high performance compared to many devices).
Reason #7: Cameras are flagship, but not the best
One of the points that can be written down as both a plus and a minus of the device. The reason is trivial, it all depends on your ideas about beauty, on what you expect from such a device. For example, my main phone for shooting is the S24 Ultra, since it has noticeably better cameras, as well as a larger set of lenses. And here everything rests on the subjective component, what exactly you need. Look at the photo examples and evaluate how much they correspond to your idea of high-quality photos, do you need better quality or is this more than enough.
Reason #8. Warranty service and the grey market
The model is expensive, as a result, many try to save money and find it on sale cheaper. There are always such offers on the gray market, but there are pitfalls, namely the lack of an official guarantee. And here you have to choose, take a risk with the purchase of a device without a manufacturer’s guarantee and save on it, or buy the device at full price in federal retail and get a guarantee.
The Fold’s defect rate is low, within the standard 1.5% for such devices from Samsung. But screen breakages due to mechanical impacts do happen (no user thinks that they did something wrong and that the reason is in them, which is normal). The cost of screen repairs corresponds to the price of the device, and is about 50 thousand rubles or so. As a result, saving on a gray device can turn into problems in the future if it breaks. It’s a pity, but there is no VIP insurance, which previously made such repairs free.
Reason #9. Fold5 availability and price
One of the problems is that the market today is structured in such a way that the previous device is not much different from the new one, but costs almost half as much (on the gray market, of course). You can buy Fold5 for about 100-105 thousand rubles, which makes such a purchase profitable, the price/quality ratio of this model is off the charts. For those interested in comparing the two models, we have the relevant material.
Reason #10. The cost of the phone
Perhaps the price of the device is the main factor against buying it, no joke, in federal retail it starts from 189 thousand rubles. Regardless of the capabilities of the device, this is one of the most expensive models on the market, which certainly has its positive sides, it is not that widespread. But at the same time, not everyone can afford such a level of spending on a smartphone, so this is clearly an argument against.
